Umr jalwon mein basar ho, yeh zaroori to nahi
Har Sabh-e-gham ki Sehar ho, yeh zaroori to nahi
Cheshm-e-saaqi se piyo, ya labb-e-sagar se piyo
Bekhudi aathon pehar ho , yeh zaroori to nahi
Neendh to Dard ke bistaar pe bhi aa sakti hai
Unki Aagosh mein sarr ho , yeh zaroori to nahi
Sheikh karta to hai Masjid mein Khuda ko sajde'
Uske sajd-on mein asar ho, yeh zaroori to nahi
Sabh ki nazron mein ho Saaqi (God) yeh zaroori hai magar
sabh pe Saaqi ki Nazaar ho, yeh zaroori to nahi

Saaqi is not God, please correct it.
here saqi is refered to God as in many sufi sings
Just because jagjit Singh Said u can not be certain that saaqi refers to God, because, God almighty have his sight on every one its human who don't have his sight on God. technical wise or with any of sufism aspect the logic is wrong.
Thts exactly wht he is saying in his lyrics. As you and all other desire/say that god keep his eyes on everyone, you are right. But he is saying that it is not very important that god should keep his eyes on everyone as we all desire but it is very important that we shld remember god all the time.
By the way, these are some amazing lyrics regardless..

A lot of metaphors and similes are used in poetry, and here Saaqi is used as a metaphor for God.
Could anyone post the name of the poet?
Poet: Khamosh Dehlvi

Rindon ko saqi par khuda ka gumaan hota hai,
Khuda aur allah main faraq hai
Allah sab ka khuda zuroor hai,
Magar khuda sab ka allah nhi hai,
Yahan saqi ka lafaz bohat wusaat angaiz mafhoom rakhta hai,
Sabhi ahbaab se iltmaas hy k tang nazri se ijtanaab bartye
